2k has announced that they are partnering with Digital Extremes to create BioShock 2’s multiplayer component. Digital Extremes is the developer of Dark Sector and also worked on the Unreal Tournament games.
The multiplayer mode is set before the fall of Rapture, so it does not tie in to the single player campaign. You play as a Plasmid test subject for Sinclair Solutions and fight with other players across fully reworked maps.
The mode will include an experience point system, presumably similar to Call of Duty 4’s in which you earn experience from playing matches and can customize your character with weapons, gene tonics, and plasmids. This is the part that really interests me as I’m big on customization and it sounds like you will have the same level of customization in multiplayer as you do in single player. This is the game I am looking forward to most (obviously from all the posts about it on this blog) and it will be released this fall on Xbox 360, PC, and PS3.

I can’t wait, any news on what the story line will be about?
sounds pretty sweet. the story is about how a little sister that was rescued from the first game (now a big sister) has gone back to rapture and taken over the goings on. you are now a big daddy in the game, which means that little sisters now come to you and arent afraid. of course you can still either save them or harvest them like before. not much more is known then that.
[...] BioShock 2 (2K Marin) This one shouldn’t take too much explaining why I am excited for it, with the first game being one of my favorite games of all time. I actually do not expect this to be as good as the first, but I’m certainly willing to be pleasantly surprised. I expect for the overall gameplay to be more polished, but perhaps the story and characters to not be as engaging. The multiplayer mode sounds great too which I have written on before. [...]
